The Kitchen

Our Bar and Kitchen on the ground floor is the social hub of the Hackney Picturehouse, a great place to relax and unwind over a drink and a bite to eat. We are open seven days a week and our delicious menu draws inspiration from a wide range of cuisines – in particular those of the Mediterranean – with a focus on fresh seasonal ingredients that are GM-free and responsibly sourced.

In our all-day bar menu the dishes range from spicy garlic tamarind and chilli prawns to chargrilled halloumi with pickled peppers and salsa verde, to kedgeree egg with mango chutney. And being a cinema we have the best authentic hotdogs served with or without sauerkraut and sweet mustard.

For something more substantial for two or more, try our boards of smoked and cured fish with rye bread, salt cucumber and honey-mustard sauce; or Spanish cured meats with broad beans and tomato bread. Or a plate of cheeses with homemade chutney, oatcakes and sourdough.

For breakfast, whether it’s the devil’s delight of a full English, the luxury of eggs Benedict or a more steadying homemade granola with yoghurt and fruit compote, we’ll be here from 8.00am to welcome you. And if it’s just a freshly baked muffin and a strong coffee you want to start your day, then "good morning, come on in."

Our lunches – eat in or takeaway - will include a daily savoury tart served with a selection of salads, as well as daily hot meat and vegetarian dishes. If you cannot bear to be away from your desk then order them boxed to take away.

We’re big on cake – in the café or the screen – we have a tempting range of freshly baked cakes, cookies and brownies to lure you to the dark side.

And the greatest evening out – supper and a film. Leave a bit of time for the pre-film rush. Choose from the 2 or 3 course options. They include seasonal dishes, such as pan-roasted rump of lamb with sweet and sour peppers, or curly kale, feta, lemon and chilli gratin, as well as classic desserts such as tiramisu, spice-poached pear and chocolate, coffee and cardamom truffle cake with crème fraiche. Take your wine to finish in the screen and don’t fall asleep during the film.

We’re looking forward to cooking for you. La Grande Bouffe has come to Hackney. Come join us and celebrate!
