Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski's last film, 2004's MY SUMMER OF LOVE starring Paddy Considine and Emily Blunt, won Best British Film at the BAFTAs, so it's hardly surprising there are high hopes for his latest, THE WOMAN IN THE FIFTH.
Based on Douglas Kennedy's novel, the film tells the story of American academic Tom Ricks (Hawke, BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD), who absconds to Paris after being caught up in a scandal that cost him his job. There he meets Margit (Scott Thomas, SARAH'S KEY), a widow with dark skeletons of her own. Just when Tom looks to have got his life back on track, their sudden and intense relationship threatens to see him sink into misfortune once more.
