Using Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem as a springboard for a Grand-Guignol comedy, THE RAVEN is a romp that has its tongue planted firmly in cheek.
This so-called ‘adaptation’ follows melancholy magician Erasmus Craven (Price) whose wife Lenore (Hazel Court) has apparently died.
Craven is paid a visit by a talking raven who is in fact the wizard Bedlo.
Craven returns him to human form, reversing a spell placed by the evil Doctor Scarabus (Karloff), Craven's chief rival.
After learning that a woman bearing a strong likeness to Lenore was seen in the Doctor's company, Craven accompanies Bedlo to Scarabus's castle, where an all-out magical war unfolds between the two embittered sorcerers.
The distinguished leads contribute to the spirit of fun by lampooning their own screen reputations as stars of horror.
